The unique thing about Aunan is how much water is available - 5.5 kilometers in total and with great pools scattered all over the stretch. Some of the most famous and beautiful pools of the Orkla are a part of the property - and if you visit in June you will have a fair shot at catching a monster Atlantic salmon. The guests at Aunan rotate between the pools so you will have good variation in your fishing, as well as the assistance of two guides working with you at all times. They know the river inside out. Take our advice - listen to theirs!
Most guests at Aunan are flyfishers but lure fishing is also permitted on the river. The Atlantic salmon is a threatened species and Vegard Heggem (and we) encourage guests to practice 'catch & release' if you do snare a fish.
Aunan Lodge is one of those places we return to every year
Aunan is not a luxurious resort, but the rooms are of good standard. On the farm there are two larger houses with multiple bedrooms and baths that guests share. One house is beautiful and located by the river, with a Jacuzzi on its terrace. The cosiest rooms are the two smaller ones on the property and these are perfect if you travel as a couple. You will find good beds and a fridge in all of the huts.
Not many fishing lodges offer better food than Aunan. The Breakfast buffet comes with warm, fresh bread, eggs and fantastic local cheese. You can either enjoy lunch by the river or in the dining hall - varying between pasta carbonara to nice salads. Every night a three course dinner is served and after a long day by the river it's hard to beat the table at Aunan with a glass of red and nice people. Vegard's wine list is small, but the quality is good and prices favourable.
Even if you don’t catch a salmon, staying at the Aunan Lodge is always a treat. Vegard, Krister, Erik and the others at team Aunan will make sure that your trip is truly memorable. We now have friends from all over the world, all made on our many trips to this beautiful salmon river.
