Copacabana Palace

Rio De Janeiro, Brazil

Copacabana Palace is not just a hotel its an institution. Since 1923, there has been a steady flow of the rich and famous entering the Art Deco doors to this grand building on Avenida Atlantica. Even though some of the crazy parties of the hotel’s heyday have died down, the glamour, service and the feeling of classic luxury is still as strong as ever.

With a spectacular location and sensational accommodations, checking into the Copacabana Palace will set you up for a few sundrenched days in Rio. Now all you need to decide is whether you choose to spend them at the hotel’s beach club with local Cariocas or by the pool with the jetset glitterati.

The hotel has a variety of different rooms and suites, 242 in total. All are classically decorated with large and luxurious bathrooms in marble. Superior is the entry-level category, and while only 30sqm in size, nevertheless feel spacious due to their high ceilings. Prices vary depending on location in the building, the most expensive being those with beach views. Most rooms have bathtubs, but a few are missing, so ask up front if this is important to you.

The suites are located in both the main building and the annex. They twice the size of standard rooms, and feature private balconies with pool and beach views from the annex and spectacular views over Copacabana from the main building. If you want to experience the Palace from its most glamorous side, make sure you choose one of the Penthouse suites with their private rooftop terrace and your own butler.

A day at Praia Copacabana is a non-stop, never ending show!

Food & Wine

Breakfast at the Palace is world famous and not without reason. It’s a grand buffet packed with fresh fruit, a variety of local specialties, home baked pastries, freshly squeezed juices, cheeses and cold cut and coffee and eggs a la carte. You can indulge either outside by the pool or inside in the Pergula restaurant.

Aside from Pergula, there are two other restaurants in the hotel - Mee serving Asian food and excellent sushi and Cipriani. Cipriani is a favorite with hotel guests and locals - so reservations are an absolute necessity. While you wait for your table, you can also enjoy an aperitif at the Copacabana Piano Bar while listening to a few bossa nova tunes.

The hotel has a modern and well-equipped fitness room, but the largest and best gym is on the beach! Go for a run together with the super fit Cariocas along the avenida in the morning before the heat gets unbearable, or just before the sunset. You might also use one of the many mini-gyms you can find along Copacabana.

The hotel also has its own tennis court and the pool is nearly Olympic size - so it is possible to use that for a workout as well.

If relaxation and beauty is what you seek, the Palace also has its own Spa with all your favorite treatments and a hairdresser.

Given its location, it’s pretty obvious that the Copacabana Palace is well suited for beach life! The private beach club for guests only provides you with lounge chairs, towels and ice-cold water. You share the beach with half a million others, but that’s definitely part of the charm. A day at the Praia Copacabana is a non-stop, never ending show! If you want to take a break from the madness, you can chill out by the pool with a cold beer or delicious cocktails.

It’s hard to top the service at Copacabana Palace. Each little detail is thought through and executed to perfection. Maids in classic uniforms enter as soon as you leave the room, switch towels, fold your clothes and make sure the room is arranged to perfection - just in time for your return. The Copacabana Palace is a large hotel with over 600 employees, and yet the service level is outstanding for all of them.
