The Dude

Berlin, Germany

Some hotels just have more soul than others. And with Hotel The Dude - Britta Bettendorf and Alexander Schmidt-Vogel have done just that. They have designed the hotel themselves from top to bottom with their own distinct style and eye for detail. The two in-house restaurants - Brooklyn Beef Club and Brooklyn Burger Bar - are among Berlin's finest. The Dude has only 30 rooms, so if you like small, intimate hotels with a personal touch and appreciate good design, there is no better place to stay. The Dude is well-located in Mitte, only a short stroll away from Unter der Linden

All the rooms from the smallest single to the lush Penthouse Suite are delicately decorated with an intelligent sensibility. The standard rooms are not the biggest and we recommend the 45 square meter suite on the top floor, if it's available. If you choose a double go for the “Senior Double” that are slightly bigger and have street views. All rooms come with Molton Brown amenities. You also get your own little The Dude, Moleskin almanac that you can take home with you. Considering that the minibar is equipped with my favorite German 'Mr Georg Breuer and Brooklyn Lager' - I don't have much to complain about!

At the Brooklyn Burger Bar they only offer one dish, but it’s the best burger in Berlin!

Food & Wine

Hotel The Dude is a place for carnivores but before you get to the meat, you need to get past the breakfast - and that's also pure joy. The a la carte menu promises home made granola, Greek yoghurt, freshly baked croissants, Italian sausages not to mention, eggs cooked any style you want. Freshly squeezed juices and all sorts of coffee are available. At the Brooklyn Burger Bar they only offer one dish, but it’s the best burger in Berlin! The highlight of The Dude is still the Brooklyn Beef Club that competes with Grill Royal for the title of Berlin’s best steak house. Juicy rib eyes, filet mignons, a great and well priced wine menu probably Berlin's best stocked wall of Malt Whiskeys compete for your pleasure. After dinner, indulge in a Cuban and retreat to the “Yada, Yada Room” next to the reception.

The Dude will pull you in the opposite direction of spas and workouts but if you absolutely have to - there is a small gym available. For a more interesting fitness fix, you can always go for a run in the streets of Mitte. The Cowshed spa at Soho House is excellent and only a five-minute taxi ride away.
