The Emblem Hotel

Prague, Czech Republic

Prague is one of my personal favourite destinations, but the city has for some time been missing a modern boutique hotel with that something extra. Fortunately, now with the recent opening of the Emblem hotel, that problem has been solved.

The Emblem has it all - exciting design details, an excellent restaurant and a spa equipped with a roof top terrace and a pool. The hotel is owned and operated by the Valtr family and together with designer Alison McNeil they have crafted a personal universe that draws on influences from Art Deco, Bauhaus, Futurism and the Avant Garde. Design aside, the hotel staff work with a pride that manifests in a level of service rare in a big city hotel. Located in Stare Mesto, just a short walk to the Charles bridge and the narrow streets of the old town - you couldn’t ask for a better spot to commence your Prague adventure.

The Emblem Hotel has 59 rooms distributed over six floors. There are four types of room categories in addition to four individually designed suites. Standard rooms are relatively small, but they feel spacious with large windows and beautiful marble bathrooms. Most rooms have bathtubs, but not all - so remember to speak with the hotel before you arrive if that is important to you. The Pied-a-Terre rooms come with a French balcony, but the room size is the same as the standard ones.

As far as accommodations go, the real jewels of the hotels are the suites - and we would especially recommend the Library Suite. The room has its own private library, packed with classics and a “secret” door in the library wall that leads into the bedroom. Not a bad segue if the last thing you like to read before going to bed is racy French literature.

In the the bathroom of the Library suite you will find another enchanting detail, a spectacular copper bathtub designed by William Holland. And perfect for those cold Prague winter nights, the room also offers a gas fire place and rustic wooden floors. If you want to live out a James Bond fantasy for a weekend, this is the room for you!

Food & Wine

The Emblem services a delicious breakfast with coffee and eggs a la carte, as well as a nice buffet with a rich selection of cheese, cold cuts, fruit, granola and fresh pastries. The adjoining restaurant George Prime Steak, really comes alive at night. Amazing steaks and a very impressive wine list with full bodied American reds have made this place popular with locals - so book your table in advance, especially during the weekends.

George also has a nice bar with a simple menu. They are responsible for the food available through room service so can rest assured that will be never far away from a juicy burger and a glass of wine, whenever you might crave it.

On the seventh floor you find the M Spa with Sauna, steam room and a large selection of treatments. The spa also offers a nice relaxation area with a private roof top terrace where you can soak in the pool overlooking Prague Castle on the other side of the Vlatava river. The hotel gym is on the same floor. Small, but decently equipped with free weights and cardio.
